American exceptionalism

  American exceptionalism is a term that is been used for some time.Its original usage was to describe the American experience as exceptional,starting with the creation of theUnited States as an independent country.It was the first significant country to adopt a republican form of government based upon democratic principles.It did not involve the overthrow of a domestic form of government but rather separation from controlled by foreign power.It was created by a group of elitists influenced by Europeans such as Locke, Hume and Montesquieu and was in many respects not democratic as only  white men,not women were allowed to vote and blacks were treated as property except they could be treated as two thirds thirds of a person to determine the number of congressional seats awarded to a particular state.It was none the less exceptional.That may be most evidenced in comparison to the French Revolution which ended in a bloodbath followed closely by the institution of an emperor.

The actions of the United States were truly exceptional after the second world when the United States helped to rebuild its former enemies and led in the creation of institutions designed to promote worldwide peace and prosperity.But somewhere along the way we have abandoned the fundamental meaning of American exceptionalism and perverted into thinking that we are exceptional human beings and better than those who live in other countries.There is a sort of smugness about the way we deplore other countries which do not practice democratic principles and indulge in violent, usually racially motivated,oppression and murder against their fellow citizens.

Now we have demonstrated that just like the citizens of other countries,we can and have exercised the worst of these tendencies.Motivated by racial and ethnic hatred We have participated in and witnessed murderous behavior.We have a organizations and mobs willing to adopt any tactic in order to attempt to install an authoritative government based upon Nativism and racial and ethnic hatred.We have a legislative branch with a large composition of members who buy their actions demonstrate a support for that if they believe it is in their self-interest to do so.

There is a certain irony in the fact that in undemocratic authoritarian RussiaThe citizens are demonstrating peacefully and attempt to have a more democratic government while in this country we have violent mobs trying to institute an authoritarian regime led by a former president who has been described by psychiatrists as a delusional psychopath.We are losing our soft power as world leaders.American exceptionalism is being replaced by American unreliability
